Chapter 13: The Seven Rules of Thought Leadership
For decades, I’ve had seven hard and fast rules that all thought leaders need to follow (and one bonus rule: never say you’re a thought leader as a pick-up line). But we all know that rules, at times, are meant to be broken, and I’m okay with the next generation of thought leaders breaking, bending, amending, twisting, modifying, reforming, and whatever else anyone wants to do to my rules.
You are now a thought leader if you made it to Chapter 13 and that means you can have your cake and eat it too. As you now know, I’m wondering who the hell said that, and why were they even thinking in dessert terms? Of course, it wasn’t a positive phrase when it was uttered by Thomas, Duke of Norfolk, to another Thomas (Cromwell) on March 14, 1538. But we’re making it positive today because you can do just about anything as a thought leader as long as you’re helping people all along the way.
Eat your cake, have two slices, share two slices, and wash it down with whatever you want. Ahh, here’s to your thought leadership.
